How to open chat

On a phone, tap Chat in the bottom tab bar (you need to be logged in). On desktop, use the speech-bubble button in the header. See Getting around NightCafe on mobile.

How chat works

Chat rooms are private by default, but anyone with the room link or ID can join. Rooms are temporary — they’re archived 7 days after everyone leaves.

Sharing creations to chat

You can share a creation to a chat with Share to Chat. If you enable auto-share, your creations are posted to the room automatically when they finish rendering (they are not published). Auto-share is great for group “jam sessions”.

Room settings

• Privacy — making a room public makes it discoverable by all NightCafe users (and messages sent before it became public become accessible too).
• Content classification — rooms are rated using film-style ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17); hosts keep the room within its rating.
• Lockdown mode — if a room is being spammed by new accounts, lockdown stops brand-new accounts from posting.
• Link previews — you can turn off link previews to keep the chat tidy; links still work.

Hosts and moderation

Every room has one or more hosts (the creator and any co-hosts) who can remove people breaking the rules. Non-hosts can suggest a kick, which other members vote on. Everyone is expected to follow NightCafe’s Community Standards. Well-hosted rooms can earn a Verified badge.

Formatting messages

Chat supports basic Markdown: *italics* (or _underscores_), **bold**, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, and blockquotes (start a line with “> ”).
